I am thinking about installing an electric fuel pump to back up the mechanical pump on my Mercruiser if it fails. I would only use it if the machanical pump quit.I am thinking of installing it in parallel with the mechanical pump with valves to shut off the suction and discharge of whatever pump is not being used. Has anyone done this? Any sugestions.

Buttanic

Buttanic,

I think it's overkill and potentially dangerous.

Gotta agree with djohns. overkill. way to expensive and potentially a fire. the mechanical pumps last for years and years. if your concerned then every 7 years replace the pump. good luck and keep posting
