Backlash at prop

How much backlash (prop rotation)should I get at the prop, in either forward or reverse gear, when I turn the prop by hand? 1987 VRO 60HP Evinrude.

Molyslip,You'll feel around 2" of travel by hand when in gear.Why, are you having a problem?

Is the 2" play at prop diameter? (Mine has a 12 1/4" diam x 15" pitch prop).

Yes,radial backlash.You having a performance problem or just wondering?

I've taken the lower unit off to change the water pump impeller, and just noticed what I thought was a lot of prop backlash. I think I might have a bit more than 2" but I will check. As for problems, yes I have. I cannot seem to get the power head off. Please see my other posting under "stuck power head". Do you have any ideas?
