If you remove the carbs you can see the reeds.
How big is the lens on the scope?
Mines too big to get in the carbs.
IF?? the scope camera is small you can get into the exhaust chest through the piston.
Or through the exhaust after the lower is removed?

Comp sounds good but you can have a bad gasket and still have good comp.
Was experiencing a miss and did a comp test.
145# on all 3.
1 plug had water????

Pulled the head and bottom piston had a bad spot about 1/8th in.

Well I have some findings, but no smoking gun...

1. Water Finding Paste - I ran the engine with a thin film of it on the unhooked plug #4 for about 5mins. Pulled it and no sign of it changing color.
a. I tried a few more times, but couldn't get anything.
b. I gave up and decided to move on.

2. Compression testing at temp - All cylinders checked right at 130psi +/- 5psi

3. Inspected the reeds and they looked like new. I even pulled the carbs to get a better look and found nothing odd.

4. I decided to start taking stuff apart:
a. Removed the Cylinder Head - Gasket looks GREAT no signs of wear or leakage to-or-from the water jacket.
b. Removed the Exhaust Manifold cover - See attached pics. I did not break ANY bolts!

I think the exhaust manifold gasket was leaking water into the manifold near the bottom. Thoughts?

Before I reassembled the engine with all new gaskets, what else should be checked?

Thanks,
Kyle

Definitely a sign of water intrusion from the bottom part of the exhaust manifold. It seems the water leak only gets worse when #4 cylinder fires making it really tough to diagnose your problem. I hope this is it and fixes your problem. How does all cylinders look like? Is there heavy carbon build up on piston crowns? Any sign of rusting on any of the cylinders?

I use OMC's gasket sealer when I redo the gaskets on the exhaust.
Nothing on the head gasket unless it won't reseal.
Then I use black RTV.Sparingly.
