Reading your opening post it reads you were idling out and encountered the mud bottom. So previous to your encounter with the mud you were idling, then you began to throttle up.

The problem could have been pre-exisiting to your mud incident. When you replaced the fuel/water seperator and gas in the tank did you check for water?? As water settles to the bottom.

My suggestion would be to check all fuel lines & hoses for kinks and condition. Tank vent, fuel pick up inside tank, and antisiphon valve. Then follow the instructions (click on link below) which Don S usually posts as to me it sounds like a fuel issue. Good luck....!!!

Well, I waited until after dark last night to see if I had a lightning storm in my engine compartment and nothing. But I also didn't hear the popping noise, even when I throttled it up. I might need to put it back into the water to put a load on it and try it again.

It is possible you won't get the popping if it is dry out. A humid day will make things worse. How old are your plug wires and cap and is everything clean? Is the outside of the distributor cap squeaky clean?

Well it was either something with the drive oil (that I changed while grasping at straws) or it was a spark plug problem (changed spark plugs) or possibly a plug wire (which I didn't change but were pushed on and off a few times) not making good contact. But today's test ride had me at 50 mph and 4800 rpm's wot. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Like I said before, a humid day will make things worse. If you have marginal plug wires and it gets a bit moist in the engine compartment, your problems may return.

Similair situation. 1988 Sea Ray Weekender. Turns over but won't start. All was fine till I dropped the factory gas cap in the water and replace it with a generic from the marina. Could it be bad gas? I use gas from a station instead of expensive marina gas or could it be the wrong fuel cap causing compression problems in a pressurized fule system?

FYI.. The gas starts to seperate after 30 days now. Also i concure with getting the light.
