Bad time to travel to NYC?

My g/f and I have been planning on going to visit family who lives outside of NYC. We would be coming down from Rochester, NY. My g/f has been very hesitant to go as we heard there is a lot of flooding between us and the destination. We also have concern that the road conditions combined with the Labor Day travel might be a reason to call it off. It is normally a 5-6 hour drive each way. My cousin said the area around him is fine, but I am unsure of the area between us and him. We also found out we would be staying 1 day less as normal so it makes a 6hour drive, which might turn to 12 less of a delight. The only problem that is bugging me is his kids were really looking forward to us coming down to visit and I would fill bad letting them down. I am not to thrillled by the possibility of doubling the travel and I am not to confident that my g/f would really enjoy it. We are also going to visit for thanksgiving, so it isn't to far off. Anyone between here and there or has an idea of the road conditions, please chime in. I want to get back to my cousin ASAP about the situation. I wish my g/f would say strait out "no", instead of hoping I make the right choice.

Thanks for the feedback,

Re: Bad time to travel to NYC?

Check the weather forecasts.
There has been a lot of flooding between you and NYC.
With more bad wet weather predicted my suggestion is to put off your trip until the end of November.
