I have a 225 HP 1995 Looper.
Am getting spark and gas and will not run.
Replaced the power pack, still no go.

When I test the timer base leads for resistance, I get no readings at all where the shop manual says readings should be in the 30-100 ohm range.

Could faulty timer base create my symptoms of spark and gas but no run??

Any help would be apprecialted.

If the timer is bad, you would not be gettine any spark. Have you check the flywheel mangets?

Re: Bad Timer Base on 225HP??

Buy a DAV voltage adapter and check all output voltage of the system, follow the steps listed in the OEM manual. Sometimes the aftermarket manual has incorrect specs and checking methods. These engines had problems with the stator, powerpack, shift switch, harness connection between the engine and control at the engine side connectors and sometimes the timer base. The screws that hold the upper bearing housing sometimes back out and wipes out the top of the engine, so flywheel keyway would need to be checked. It also helps to know if this is a rebuildt engine and always had problems. This engine had about 100lbs compression when new, so 60 lbs would be very low, except there are a few engines floating around that had 60 lbs compression an ran very well.
