This week started off kind of rotten. My van started running bad. Found water in the oil, and it is now running hot. Don't know about that yet, I am hoping if I ignore it it will go away.

Today my wife got her paycheck and found she made $500 more than we budgeted for. Then she also found she got a job she had interviewed for. In a past post I said how she is working temp as a special ed teacher. I am happy for her, she has wanted this so bad.

It looks like in 3 or 4 months we should be able to dig ourselves out of this hole we are in!

Glad things are getting better. I'm not the best auto wrench in the world, but your symtoms of your van sound like a blown head gasket. It wont go away, but all your water hoses will eventually. Good luck, maybe someone else has an idea..

Great news DD

And as oj says; sounds like a bad head gasket: get it fixed. You don't want a hydraulic freeze up -water fills cyl and on compression brings the whole thing to a stop. This can also occur when starting. MIL did this; result, new engine! Thankfully it was a couple of hundred K's in warranty. Was on a Buick and dealer said the gaskets were a problem with that model. New engine new warranty!

Was in the parts store Monday and a rod was on the counter - bent in a U with piston wrist pin broken out of the piston -- hyd freeze up at cruising speed!

Could be the intake, a cracked head, cracked block or head gasket. I'm with everyone here on head gasket. Problem is my garage is full of projects and it is too cold to work outside. Today got up to 21, felt like spring. Just need to decide to junk it or fix it. Paid $2500 over 2 years ago and it has over 250,000 miles.

Oh well, wife is happy and as we all know when mamma's happy everyones happy.

Re: Bad week ended great!

I had a 87 Honda accord and the white sweet smoke of a blown head gasket started pouring out the tail pipe. The car wasn't worth the cost of repairing it so I dumped in a can of stop leak and it sealed it. Sold the car 2 years later and was still running fine. The chances of stop leak repairing a blown head gasket are slim to none but worth a try if $$$ are tight.
