I have a 1962 Elgin Runabout with a 40 HP Elgin/Scott. The Bail O matic is hooked up.There is a vacuum but does it work? I haven't had very much water in the boat even running all day in 20 knt winds. My question is if I took a wake over the transom would it bail out the boat. My guess is yes but very slow. It looks like it belongs on the end of my garden hose. any Ideas?? I still cary my 3/4 OJ bottle.

Re: Bail o matic

Based on your description of feeling "vacuum", it may not be worn out and could very possibly pump water overboard as designed. You might want to test it while tied up to the dock. I would keep the OJ bottle handy. The link below will get you to some service info on that great old motor that includes the BOM. Good luck!

LOGIN as directed, then drill down to: Small Engines, Marine/Boat Motors, McCulloch and, finally, Royal Scott.

Drop it in a five gallon bucket of water and see how fast it pumps; the bail-o-matic will handle occasional splashes/spray or a slow leak but it's not a big pump.
