I've just thrown out my second BBQ this year. Both are West Marine and both did the same thing, they started to burn trough the regulator fitting. This last one burned at such a high rate, we had to turn off the propane supply. Fortunately it was on the large 20lb tank. If it was on the small 1lb tank I think I would have had to find a way to throw it in the water or something.

What are your suggestions for a good BBQ. It appears to be Magma is the most popular.

Thanks,

Re: Barbeque Brand

I've only been through one summer with my Magma, but so far it's lived up to its reputation. I use it on my party barge. Here are some of the things I like about it.

1. After each use I allow it to cool then stow it under the helm. On more than one occasion due to forgetfulness or laziness it's stayed there for a week before I've gotten around to cleaning it. Even then it cleans up easily and afterward looks like I just bought it.
2. Not sure if it's the stainless, the construction method, or what, but it radiates the heat very evenly, which means it cooks food quickly but doesn't burn it as long as you're reasonably careful. It also remains fairly cool on the outside while cooking.
3. I got the one with folding legs and ordered a mounting kit to go with it. The mounting kit consists of square rail mounts and plates with attached stems. The plates attach to the bottom of the grill and the stems go through holes in the mounts and are secured by cotter pins. With this setup you can grill while underway, which is handy. And, if you want to use it for camping or something you've still got the folding legs.
4. The burner stays lit really well. I've only had it blow out a couple of times, and that was when I left the lid up too long.

So, in my opinion "you get what you pay for" applies to Magma products.

I've had Magmas for 20+ years. Very well built. we started with a charcoal model but upgraded to a gas 'party-size', which we've had for about 10 or 12 years now. Works fine but my older model and is usually hard to start. I hear the newer ones are much better.
