Basic Engine Diagram for Novice, anyone?

I am new to boating, so when i look at an engine/outdrive, and someone says oh the bellows are bad, or the anodes. I have no idea what they are looking at. Does anyone have link to a basic diagram of an outdrive that shows where these parts are on the outdrive, or what they look like? Thanks

I'm curious too. I understand the engine, outdrive, bellows, etc, but what the heck is an anode?

Anode is a sacrificial zinc. I don't have acess to all the cool links, or I'd help ya. You might think about getting your self a manual......J

Im looking for a diagram of an engine that points out some of the basic components.<br /><br />risers<br />manifolds<br />thermostat housing<br />starter<br /><br />My engine is a Volvo 4.3GL, but I think any engine diagram would do. Id just like to know what Im looking at when I open my engine compartment. I also ready a lot of threads, but often times dont know what components everyone is talking about.<br /><br />Thanks for any suggestions as I didnt find such a diagram in my Seloc manual, using google or on the wbsite recommended by Bondo.

Interesting! In that link from Don, they call the manifold and elbow (riser to some ) 'exhaust pipe'.<br /><br />Chris.................

Ayuh,..............<br /><br />It's that there Pipe kinda Elbow looking thingy on the top of the motor that the water,+ Exhaust,..... <br />Rises up thru,+ gets dumped outa da boat.............

As our Volvo instructor in tech school called it, it's a Swinglish term, which is a Swedish and English mixed translation sometimes not meaning what it was meant to in the beginning.<br />Now, is that clear or not <br /><br />Oh, and Chris, since you're so close by, stop in for a cold one when you get a chance....
