My son is in the process of purchasing his first home. It is definitly a fixer upper. He doesn't have much knowledge on doing "basic" repairs.
That being said, what "basic" set of tools does a homeowner need?

Hammer
Screwdriver set
Pliers
Cordless drill/driver and drill set
Wrenches
Locking Pliers
Duct Tape
WD-40
Assorted mess of screws,bolts,washers,nails
Saw
Step Ladder

Y'all keep adding on.

Hey, I just "gave" him $6000.00. That was the money he has paid to me for rent here at home since he graduated from high school. It was a very nice surprise to him. He's going to put $3000.00 down on the mortgage and keep the other $3000.00 for the necessary repairs.
He never knew I saved that money from him and he has never asked me for money.....YET.

Re: Basic tools for a new home owner

I think that one of those shop lights that plug in via an extension cord would really help... that way when hes doing work sans-lights, he'll be able to have light....

Sean
