I have a 1984 Bass Tracker with some soft spots on the main portion of the deck. The carpet is brown and old, and I was wondering if anyone with a Bass Tracker has done the repair themselves before.

I am fairly handy and have tools, and have located carpet and marine plywood. My question involves the removal of the side boards, getting around the fact that the boat is riveted, etc.

I have the boat in the shop currently getting a tune up and carbs rebuilt, but it will be back this weekend and I would like to begin refurbishing the boat.

Plans
--------

Replace rotten wood on deck
Replace ALL carpet (grey)
Replace livewell and rear compartment lids with custom build wooden lids, and coat with rhino-liner or truck bed liner to prevent future wear and protect against water
Paint center console black
Paint Trailer black (I'm thinking engine enamel might be a good choice since it's really durable)

I'm hoping to turn a tired looking 84 into an updated looking machine.

Any comments, suggestions, or know-how from someone who has done this before, or someone specifically familiar with bass trackers would be helpful.

Additionally, for the custom made storage compartment lids, does anyone know where I can get handle fixtures that screw right in that have recessions so the ring handle will be flush when closed?

Any pics of a similar restoration would be great as well.

Devisetek, I just purchased a 85 and am getting ready to replace my decks also, but with the cost of marine ply I am trying something different. I am going to use a 1/4" piece of laminate and layer with fiberglass to 1/2". I am starting with one of the small storage doors to see how it goes, I will keep you updated. IHECIG

You can get the little fold down handles from West Marine and Bass Pro Shops.
The job shouldnt be too hard, the worst part is going to be ripping everything out. When you do the carpet, use regular adhesive on the tops of the lids and the flat parts of the floor, and then use contact cement on the edges of the compartment lids and any vertical drops onto the deck so that the carpet sticks right away.

One last bump before I get everything together to do this. Anyone have a guide to general floor repair, or Bass Tracker specific pics / resto guides / etc.?

I have an '89 and found some pics of someone restoring and earlier 80's TX-17 on another site. I can look for the link or I downloaded the pics on my other PC. I don't think it would be right for me to post someone elses pics, but I'll see if I can find the link tonight or tomorrow morning and post it.

I know in the brochure for my 1993, that they have a lifetime warranty on the marine playwood. Ever thought about seeing if they'll replace it?
