Battery / fuel tank

Hi, Just wondering how safe it is to place a gas tank and battery side by side in a boat. I have seen lots of outboard powered boats with the tank and battery placed underneath the splashwell and a curtain inclosing the opening. There isn't a blower like on an inboard, so what about gas fumes and spark? Although I have not heard of any boats blowing up, it seems to be a receipe for disaster! Thanks Tracstar

As long as you keep the connections on the batter tight and keep it in a battery box you should be fine.Keep a close watch on your fuel lines and if you think they might be old, leaking,or just don't trust what you have replace with new.Carry a good fire extinguisher(law) mount it somewhere it's easy to get to.

Portable 6 gallon tanks don't have provisions for external venting. They vent to the atmosphere. Battery/fuel tank areas that have a curtain over them are not sealed tight enough to cause a problem unless things like battery connections and fuel lines are simply ignored.
