Regarding the wing nut thing, are you saying generally to use the large terminal for cranking the boat? Do not use the screw on type at all, or are you saying, just don't use the wing nut?
I use the battery selector as needed. I probably have too long of wires at some points. I sometimes think the starter is weak because it bags down or even stops turning the engine over at times. Could be the wires are too long?

The screw on terminal is fine for both. When I wire up to batteries, I always use the screw terminal. The cable that is attaching to the battery is generally only going to a switch on the positive side and the engine block or negative bus on the negative side.

After all, the cable from the battery is going to have the exact style terminal that goes to the switch if you use the screw type terminal.

Wing nuts get thrown away if they happen to come with the battery. No reason to have a wing nut since you should gave to remove cables if you have a battery switch.

You are correct. Just don't forget and leave the switch in the wrong position.

Just so you know, a cranking battery for your electronics is generally a bad idea since it is not a deep discharge battery. Since you already had it, I can see why you are going to use it but the replacement battery for that should be at least a combo battery so you can discharge it more without damage.

In my pontoon boat, I have a start battery for the engine and a Costco marine deep discharge battery for everything else. My switch turns on both batteries to their specific loads.

In my Wellcraft, I use 2 AGMs with a 1/2/both switch. Both can be discharged and battery #2 is essentially just a spare.

Are you not putting a switch between your battery and your electronics?

The first battery switch has 2 on/off switches in it. It is designed for two batteries with one connected to the engine and one connected to a house load. It's 2 single pole single throw switches with an option to join the 2 together if need be

The second battery switch is a 1/2/both switch. It's just a single pole double throw switch that you can select all your loads to be connected to one of two batteries or both batteries when selecting the "both" position.

Both switches are for dual batteries.

Man, maybe I should read instead of just look at the picture. I missed the "combine batteries" position. Jorge, ignore me. Lol

That means your electronics and your engine are both on what ever battery you have the switch set too.

Just so you know...I am kinda going the long way around figuring out how you have everything connected in case there might be something you should try and add or possibly change.
