Battery Location

I have a Sailfish 176. One battery is mounted in the bilge tray slightly ahead and above the bilge pump along with the battery switch (Perko 8501). The other battery is mounted in the starboard transom locker area and is almost as high as the top of the engine (Suzuki DT100). The port side transom has the bait well.

I can fit both batteries side by side in the bilge tray. Is there an advantage to have the batteries geographically dispursed and/or one higher than than the other?

Is it advisable to mount them side by side in the bilge - or keep them where they are?

Re: Battery Location

The starboard battery is counter acting the weight of the bait well. You might get a list in the boat if you move it.

Generally I don't use the bait well - only as dry storage...

Re: Battery Location

Weight distribution is the main reason. If their not in your way,and the boat does'nt lean to one side you may wan't to leave them.If you need to move one, before you rewire everything, move the batteries where you would like and take the boat for a test run,If your happy with the handling instal them.

Jim
