Battery Options (Portable or Otherwise)

Hi, bare with me while I explain my situation.

We own a 22 foot Aquasport Walkaround with two batteries. We often stay on the boat and run things like fans, a small T.V., etc. for a couple days straight. It seems the two batteries that came with our boat often get lower than we would prefer.

We also have a jumper battery that has 900 peak amps and from I can tell 250 cold cranking amps. We sometimes plug the fans or T.V. into this but it seems to run out fairly quickly.

Initially I was looking for a replacement jumper but after looking at several jumpers it seemed like they really focused on jump starting rather than powering fans, etc. We were looking at the Solar ES2500 and ES5000 pictured here http://www.mytoolstore.com/clore/booster.html. While the site I linked doesn't show cold cranking amps, I found that on another site and it says the ES2500 has 250 cold cranking and the ES5000 has 360 cold cranking.

So, I guess my question is (or I'm looking for confirmation on) these types of jumper batteries aren't really made for prolong use for powering fans, T.V., etc., even though they will do so?

We also saw jumper batteries which seem to be more aimed to power things because they actually had the a/c plug in on the unit and a converter inside. For example, we saw this Black and Decker unit http://www.blackanddecker.com/productguide/product-details.aspx?productid=15591&toolview=4#details. It has 450 instant amps for 5 seconds (which I assume just means peak amps) and has 300 amps DC (which I assume means cold cranking amps). Again though, I guess this really isn't meant to power things for more than a couple hours.

So, my second question is, any suggestions on a battery battery jumper that might be geared better for powering things? Or, alternatively, another option that may allow us to do what we want to do?

My other thought was to perhaps replace one of our two boat batteries with a more powerful more expensive battery. If I did this, what should I be looking for? I assume I should not look for peak amps. Should I be looking for cold cranking amps? I read something about reserve amps but I'm a little foggy about what that is.

Anyway, sorry for the disorganized post, but I'm hoping this gives me some direction to aim my research. I don't want to drop $150 on a jumper like the ES5000 if it really isn't something that will suit our needs of powering a fan throughout the entire night for a couple nights in a row, or a T.V. for a few hours each night.

Thanks!

Re: Battery Options (Portable or Otherwise)

Your best bet is to set up a 3 battery system. 1 for starting and other boat essentials like running lights and bilge pump.
And 2 for your fan, ac, tv, etc.

Try to find the room and do it right.

The jumpers are just that.

Yeah, the issue is the room. That's why I was wondering about possibly increasing the size of one of my two current batteries.

I am realizing that jumpers are for jumping at least.

What you really need to do is isolate the cranking battery from all the house loads and get a bigger battery for the house loads.
