Are there any maintenance free deep cycle and starting batteries?

Has anyone used a on board watering system to fill their batteries. The system consist of manifolds to replace the caps and hoses which run from a distilled water source to the manifolds. Each cell has a valve to prevent overfilling.

Re: Battery Questions

They do a perfect job. But you still have to put the water in the supply tank.

Re: Battery Questions

This unit has a hose and bulb so you you can pump distilled water out of a bottle to fill the tank.

Thanks Richard for the information.

Re: Battery Questions

Yes, there are ‘maintenance free’ deep cycle batteries. They are called AGM (absorbed gas mat) or gel cell batteries or those spiral wrapped thingies (Orbit brand or brand). I do not like gel cells. I am a huge fan of the new AGM batteries for a lot of reasons, especially deep cycle applications. They can be used for starting and/or deep cycling.

An option for flooded cell batteries is a recycle cap that replaces the manufacture’s caps. The recycle cap takes the gas (hydrogen and oxygen) and recombines them so the cap drips water back into the battery. Never used them, not cheap, but you add water maybe once a year, if that.
