I have a 1985 bayliner capri w/ an 85 OB. The people before me just threw a cheap car battery in there and it worked about half a season. I ended up just using the red top optima out of my truck when i brought it to the lake. I am in the market for a new battery do I just need a marine starting battery? This will just run the tilt and trim and starting the boat w/ occasional radio time. I also was wondering what kind of wire I can use since the wires that are in the back have corroded some is there marine wire or can I just use some from the local hardware store?

A good marine starting battery will work.

I have used regular car batteries as well with no issues.

As for wiring, the proper size gauge of wiring from your local store will work. I always solder my connections (no crimp on) because they last longer.
