I am in the market for a boat BBQ for my father and I?s new 24? Wooldridge fishing boat. Looking for rectangular propane powered unit that hangs off the side. The catch, since the boat doesn?t have a galley it would be really nice if I could find one that has an attachment or such that can allow me to boil water, use a frying pan, etc. I don?t need it to bbq and boil at the same time, but being able to make coffee and eggs in the morning then grill steaks/fish in the afternoon would be perfect.

My google searches have not yielded much, but I figure I am not the only person that has wanted this so hopefully one of you guys know where I can get one.

Thanks!

Ayuh,.... There's no reason ya can't put any pot or pan ya want, on top of a BBQ grill,....

'bout the only difference is a small round burner, Vs: a big square burner,....
Still a burner that'll heat a pot or pan,.....

Indeed that will work. I guess I was hoping for something a bit more simple and integrated. A small attachment that goes inside the grill and directs the flames upward and in a circular pattern.

Have you done this? What were the results? I guess my concern is that on a gas stove the flames are effectively on the pot, where a BBQ they are usually around 4 inches down, so heat transfer will be worse, meaning it will take a lot more fuel and time to boil water, especially since you can't close the top of the BBQ with a pot on there.

Have you used this unit? I guess it's not clear to me what the burner arrangement is. I might have to email them...

Thanks guys, any other options?

I have this unit but mounted on a pedestal. The inside is like any other grill on the market with a burner, diffuser and wire rack to cook on. The lid of the unit is raw aluminum that (theoretically) can be used as a griddle according to the manufacturer's literature. I have never used it as such but it gets extremely hot when the burner is turned up so I can imagine successfully using it as a griddle for certain things (frying eggs without a skillet for instance, probably even cooking bacon). It has a channel around the edges to drain any liquids off to the back that may otherwise accumulate on the lid. It does seem that it might be difficult to clean the griddle depending on what was cooked on it however. A good wire brush might do the trick though

If the flat plate didn't work you could try one of these. I use one for hunting and fishing camp.

I have Pontoon, and I also have a Coleman Roadside grill I use, I put it on the rear deck behind the playpen, it works out great. it is not to large that it gets in the road of things, and it uses a small propane canister to cook with, and it last pretty long.

I've used a Magma Kettle grill for 7 seasons. We love it. We found that neither the burgers, dogs, steaks, sausages nor chicken seem to care that the grill is round. What problem is a square grill solving?

Storing, a rectangular stove will stow a bit better in the boat due to the form factor. But honestly it's seeming like this is the best option.

Have you boiled water with it and cooked on a pan/griddle? Was that up to snuff as well?

I have been using a Magma Party Kettle 2 (17" round) for 10 years. It's excellent. It works great as a stove for boiling water or cooking in a frying pan. I have an alcohol stove on my boat and use the burner on the Magma more, unless it's col out and I want the heat in the cabin.

Another nice thing about the round grill is that a 16" pizza pan fits in it perfectly. Hot, fresh pizza on a boat is great... We also use the pizza pan to heat up nachos.
