Bearing Video

I was looking for info on bearings as I've never messed with mine. Ran across www.sailingtexas.com they had a video of a bearing repack. Also a video of getting an axel off the ground w/o a jack. Two questions: can a bearing problem lead to severe wear on inside of tire? And, If the axel has brakes how will that change the bearing change job? Thanks

It could lead to severe wear of a tire and it could lead to severe damage if it totally fails as the entire wheel could come off the hub. If you have play in the wheel/hub then you should replace those bearings asap. If your axle has brakes it should still be close to the same job. Your wheel caps come off, the cotter pin/crown nut is removed and the entire hub should come off. Your axles are probably the exact same as axles without brakes.. Typically they put a backing plate that holds the pads & actuators on the axle when brakes are put on.

Thanks. No play at all, but I've just done some measuring and it seems the axel is on an angle. I don't know how this happened as there have been no changes over the last couple of years and I've never had this tire wear before, but I guess stuff happens. So I am going to move the right side of the front axel a couple of inches and see what happens.

Try to measure it with a long tape measure from the axle mounting point to the center of the coupler. Be sure to measure both sides the same way, if you align the axle using this method you shouldn't have any odd tire wear and the trailer will pull straight and true. You may also check for a bent axle, perhaps a rock or something when launching?

Perhaps an overloaded trailer and/or under inflated tires.
