Unplugging this will isolate your ignition switch as the problem, as well as a shorted wire in the harness coming from the switch or anywhere else. Undo this and proceed as you did before by jumping it out and see if you get spark.

Re: Been trying to start engine

Have just tried the test you recomended with the cable disconnected and jumping the starter. I found a metal bar hanging from the choke mechanizm that didnt look right after a few mins looking i found that it was supposed to be in the middle of some sort of coil so i have now put it back in its place and tried the test again still no spark.

I am still waiting on delivery of my manual, so when it turns up i will be able to put names to these bits

So that rules out the ignition kill circuit from the control on back. I would have to guess the powerpack is out at this point, as it has a CD-2 ignition.

Re: Been trying to start engine

can I test the cd2? If so how? still waiting on manual. I have a friend coming over at the weekend (who is familliar with the cd2 ignitions system) to have a look he also has testing equipment and tools to remove the fly wheel. I am worried if the manual dont turn up by the weekend we will be all dressed up with nowhere to go, any suggestions? Many thanks in advance ;)

Re: Been trying to start engine

Well Rick looks like you were right. I done all the tests I found on the forum and in the new manual, all the tests point to the powerpack.

now i have a new problem of getting a new one. I have found the part on a couple of sites but so far have only found one that ships to the uk https://www.surplusunlimited.com/Me...reen=CTGY&Store_Code=1&Category_Code=1550-130 (its the 113-2453). The price for the part is good but, the shipping is twice the price of the part.

I have tried the local wrench he has made a couple of phone calls but as yet has not come up with one.

Do any of you guys know where I can get one of these parts in the UK or without the $80 shipping costs?

Good News.... The local wrench came good and I should have my new power pack tomorrow. So if that was the problem and the wind backs off a bit I could be fishing at the weekend.

Thanks for all the help I have learnt so much from you guys and serching the forum. Will post to let you know if the power pack does the trick Thanks again. :p

Re: Been trying to start engine

Picked up the new power pack today and fitted it, Started almost first turn of the key. Seems to be idling very fast though could it be because i didnt run it long enough to get warm? I am going to plop the boat in the water on sunday (weather pemitting) and i will find out then. While my mate was over we done a compresion test and got 120 on each pot from what i have read this seems pretty good as there is very little or no difference between the cylinders.
