Hi

I failed to "winterize my Johnson 28 HP Jet Special Outboard this winter.

I have not used the boat since December 15th or so, (2 months)

The boat has been stored in a friend's Garage which is beside his house. It got cold in there Im sure, but it is unknown if the temperature got below freezing.

Do you think the engine will still be ok? What damage should I expect to find?

Thanks

If there is water in the gearcase and it froze it could crack the gearcase. At only 2 months if you get gas treatment in the fuel system and run it in you will probably be ok otherwise.

Baring any lower unit problems, you should be OK as Spike has posted. I run a repair shop and does my personnal engines get winterized EVERY YEAR?? I don't think so...d:) Yeah I know.....I should practice what I preach here....LOL!!

as long as the engine was stored in the down position, you should be ok. the engine is self draining, in the down postion.

Since it's a jet, there is no lower unit to worry about and the pump won't hold any water in it. I'm sure that while the motor was upright on the boat when you took it out of the water and brought it home, all of the water drained out of it, so even if it was laying down there is nothing to worry about.

2 months of sitting in a cool area won't cause any problems.
