Re: Belt popped off

Have you tried your local Mercruiser dealer? Or google "Mercruiser 58333" without the " "

Re: Belt popped off

Pevaguy,
I believe you are correct because the alternator was all the way towards the engine....I got the belt to the point you are referring to but could not get it the rest of the way. How do I "bar" the engine over to get it on the last pulley? Just curious because I am still going to get the top bracket and then the correct size belt. Thanks.

"baring" the engine is turning the crankshaft and the rest of the pulleys by hand using an appropriate pry bar, a large screw driver or wrench.

Re: Belt popped off

You dont, thats "redneck engineering" .forcing a undersized belt on put way too much load on the waterpump pully.
take a tape measure around all the pullys with the alt against the block , add 1 inch , go get a belt that long and the bracket for the alt.

Re: Belt popped off

I was able to obtain a bracket locally and another belt that is roughly another inch larger than the one that popped off. I will be tackling this in a few hours and update hopefully soon after. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Belt popped off

Instead of going for an inch longer and hoping for the best, the Merc part number for the belt is 57-64032A1, the Sierra number is 18-15410. NAPA normally carries the Sierra brand of Marine parts, or can convert the numbers to the store brand.

You will probably be wanting to know how to change the belt as well, so here you go.

Thanks for all the help... I got the correct belt, not just guessing or hoping for the best. I had already taken the other one off so I knew how to change it...thanks to the same diagram you have posted many times. Only needed to take out the spacer and I supported the engine with a small car jack. Installed the upper bracket that had been taken off and put tension on the belt and locked it in. Put muffs on and fired her up...worked like a charm. Thanks again to all that helped.
