Hey everyone, my winter project rinker 232 has been doing great. Having an issue with a squeeling belt I can't seem to get rid of, may have found some info on it but wanting to see if anyone has heard of it. It's a 99 5.7 tbi bravo 3 OL376735. It's a serpentine belt.
Replaced the belt, didn't solve it. Seems like if I tighten the belt, I can see the alternator move and become out of alignment. Looks like the bracket is flexing. Verified everything was tight and no missing hardware.
A Google search shows there may have been a recall on the bracket but it expired in 2004. Anyone familiar with this? Is there a replacement bracket I can order?
Thanks
Kevin

Have not heard of this issue but do you have the Mando or Delco alternator? Also are the alternator brackets installed?

Hi there, you must have found Bob and Sue's Serpentine belt squeal mercruiser 5.7l 350 solved... .

Is your alternator on the upper left side while looking at the front of the engine from inside the boat or is it on the lower right side?

While your serial number is not in the range of either of the service bulletins (SMC-02-09 & SMC-03-04) that solves a shredding belt, some have mentioned that they have had a squeal sound and adding a spacer positioned between lower alternator brace and alternator along with seawater pump bracket 865143T seemed to help much like Bob seemed to have mentioned. Also some have mentioned they've seen the issue outside of the range so maybe. http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71951

Service Bulletin - Mercury Mercruiser engines and parts

Be sure not to over tighten the belt as I've seen the flex you're mentioning but mainly with the alternator on the upper left side. Try to find a happy medium if possible.

Thanks, it's in the lower right region looking at the front of the engine.
