Hi guys, over the last few weeks i have been considering remove my middle bench seat, the plan was to use a dremel to cut the welds so that if there was a hint that it would affect the safety i could just weld it back in....

well i got home yesterday and my brother though he would be nice and help, well now the seat is ruined and i am unhappy with the flex in it....

i was hopeing that someone here may be a little better with structural stuff then what i am, i have uploaded a photo of my boat if anyone could help with how to run some supports that would be appreciated.

Could you fab up a pair of storage boxes that would tie the sides to the deck? Something like this:

Then you'd still have the deck space you were after and still support the hull.

Re: Bench Seat Removal

i thought of that, but i want to keep the weight down aswell.

i was thinking of running a length of allu down the side between the top of the seats then extending the centre rib up to the new allu ?? should stiffen it up a fair bit?

I'm no structural engineer but this is the way they did it in my old Spectrum. I'd think a guy could use some AL channel to stiffen it. Set the channel in where you want it, use a compass to scribe top and bottom shape and weld in. I'll include the fact that the channel on this boat ran from the transom to the front bulkhead near the bow.

Its an idea.
