Have a 82 40hp merc. Hit a log the other day and cupped one blade over. Is it possible to us a rubber mallet to pound it back in place, or will it snap off when I pound it. Its not stainless steel I think its Alum.

Re: Bend prop

Would someone tell me why this was moved. I placed it in its proper place and someone locked it and moved it to general. This is what I read there: Attention: Due to the recent changes in the organization of the forums we ask that you no longer post repair related questions in this forum. Please post all repair related questions under the forum that corresponds to your outboard manufacturer.

Thats what I did.

Re: Bend prop

ibwhnt

I can't tell you why it was moved to here, but I can tell you if the prop was bent, your best bet is to take it to a prop shop to have it repaired and balanced. Balance is the important part when you whack something the prop. Odds are unless it is a real small bend, it will break if you hit it trying to straighten it. For about $50.00-$60.00, they will make the whole prop just like new, straighen it, balance it and paint it too.. If it's out of balance, it could wear the seals out on the lower unit. Not good and a whole lot more money...
