Re: Bent axle

gwood - What kind of tires are you running on this trailer ?

Bias or Radials? ( before the 13 on the tire itll have a d for bias or r for radial, if u arent sure bud )

And when u say wearing on the outside are they a smooth wear or looks choppy like some one took a hatchet to the outter treads?

Bias tires and very choppy looking.

Re: Bent axle

Maybe i missed this info in the previous posts but is it a leaf spring suspension or torsion bushings? Which ever it is make sure all the suspension is tight. The axle could be shifting some causing the tire wear. Some pics of the tires posted would be helpful.

The suspension is leaf springs & here are the last 2 tires removed. Trailer is in repair shop, hopefully they will be able to give me an analysis quickly.

Re: Bent axle

tough to say, but here in the trailer shop i work at, bias ply tires when they wear down generally wear very choppy being a cheaper tire ( especially if your doing alot of higher speeds or on the highway, if so go with radials for sure) pics look like they are kinda both a smooth and also choppy wear so im gonna say partially bent axle and bias ply tires arent helping either..

good luck

Re: Bent axle

Well it's official the trailer axle is bent, it's rated for 3500# and it's a custom axle.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Bent axle

I was doing a search on google for Trailstar trailers and came across this post. I have extreme inside wear (not outside like gwood has in this post). I was told that I probably have a bent axle. Could it be something else that is causing the abnormal wear and can the axle be straightened if it is bent? Thanks.

Re: Bent axle

Anyone???? I took a closer look and noticed that the inside edge of both tires is "choppy", like there are cuts in tire. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks.

Re: Bent axle

How does one bend an axle upward? The only way that can happen is to run over a stump or a large rock. But then there would be bent stuff under the tow vehicle as well. I suppose some genius tried to jack up the trailer by placing the jack in the middle of the axle. Overloading and rough roads cause axles to bend downward in the middle -- not upward. And for it to be bent exactly in the middle is rather strange as well if it was done accidentally. I still contend this is a cambered axle as they are pretty standard issue on 3500# axles. If the bend was accidental there would be witness marks from whatever hit it...

Re: Bent axle

Can they repair the "bent" axle or replacing it. The reason I ask is, a frame shop said they have a 90% chance they can repair my square tube axle using pressure points and porta powers.
