bent skeg

hi guys .i have a 1986 johnson 140 horsepower . the motor pulls to the right at any speed . ihave ajusted the trim tab to the way the motor is pulling it does not help at all .i noticed the skeg is bent on the motor i am sure this is my problem . also is there a tenstion bolt anywhere on the transom bracket that i can ajust ? .thanks

Usually a bent skeg won't show up in normal operation unless it is severely bent. Don't try to bend it back or it will break. Are you sure that your motor is centered on the transom? Is your weight (portable fuel tanks, gear, people, coolers) evenly distributed?

that the right hand torque pull adjust the tab with the back of the tab to the right. if it really bothers you change your steering to rotary no feedback.

I had a bent skeg on my 140 and could not stop fighting the steering. I adjusted the back of the trim tab as far as possible to the right. It helped, but not a lot.

I bought the skeggard like the ones they sell here at iboats, cut and ground away the bent part of the skeg and I have not had a problem since: Here is what it looks like:

I agree don't try and bend it back yourself, rather let a repair shop do it for you .... a hecticly bent skeg and also cause cavitation ....
