I've come across a 25' Bertram Moppie hardtop. It's up for sale (offers) and I want to make a bid. This is the only one I've ever seen so I have no idea of it's actual value but I see the prices on the net are rather high. This boat isn't my 'cup of tea' but I may be able to get it for less than it would normally sell for... so that's my question, what's it worth or what could I get for it on a reasonably quick (re)sale? Thanks.

Magster,

One of the best boats ever made. Very heavy, seaworthy and solidly built.

If in pristine condition, it's worth quite a bit.

Check NADA and do some i-net searches for brokers that specialize in Bertrams.

Had a better look today, it's in probably about a 7.5 out of ten or average condition, good for it's age. It's repowered with twin FWC 3.0 Mercs. w/alpha drives (counter-rotating w/225 hrs.) SS props, power steering, some electronics, stand up canvas... etc. no trailer though. It's neat, I see why they're popular. The owner is going to take the best offer. I'm not bidding against a bunch of knowledgeable 'boat' people and it's not advertised. Not sure what to bid...

A Bertram Moppie is just about the ultimate " I wish it was mine" boat in this area. One in good condition is getting rarer and harder to find. They are excellent boats and "I wish" it was closer to here.

What happened to the Tolly?

How many boats do you need?

Re: Bertram moppie

It's not like it sounds/looks. The Tolly update is in the 'vote for a boat' thread. This Bertram thing just kinda' popped up. It's worth more than we're going to have to pay for it so we were hoping to just resell it and make a few bucks on it. It'll help pay for the Tolly... but to answer your question, "How many boats do I need?" One. Ask me how many I'd like...

Worked for Bertram back in the mid 60s. The quality in the areas of the boat that you cannot see are every bit as good as the quality that you can.

NADA values might be able to be used for dealers to give the customers the least amount for a trade-in but for actual value, they are not realistic. At least for older boats. Example; go check the value for any 1970's Seacraft 23 footer. If you can find one at that price, buy it.
Use Boat Trader to find what people are asking. And the price will vary with region. Good luck.
