New here, bought 25' Bertram project boat has omc and burnt motor. Thinking about redoing transom and floor and installing twin 300 hp stern drive system. Any advise on whether this will work and what kind of motors or outdrives? Hulls worth it! I had a 25' with twin 140's. Was very sluggish.

Re: Bertram twin

Better put a larger fuel tank. I had a 31 Bert with twin 220 HP diesels. Topped out about 32 mph and got pretty good mileage. Unless you want to fly I would think twin 220's would be about right. Plus the I/O,s would be faster than the straight inboards in the 31, less drag.

Re: Bertram twin

Thanks for the info. When redesigning the propulsion system, I wonder if it would be a problem placing the motors as far apart as possible to enable a center walk thru transom. I like to dive and need a way to the platform. Can anyone think of any problems this may cause?

OK, being the Bertram is probably an old one and the OMC's was stringer models, you have to be concerned with the transom. The stringer drives didn't use the transom for support like the newer engines. You need to besure the transom is sound, and will support the thrust. Also you will probably find the transom is either thinner than or thicker than what Mercruiser reccommends.
