My dad was running a repo wrecker in Houston when ZZ was just starting to get to play in beer joints. I listened to way too much of their stuff in my lifetime. I still like them, favorite song of theirs is "Rough Boy".

And, oh yeah, I still listen to 'em. Favorite song is probably Lagrange, or maybe Mexican Blackbird

Great band. I like Maniac Mechanic, it reminds me of one of my best friends in high school.

I love "Waiting for the Bus", and every time I go out for Mexican Food I want my plate to look like the inside of the original Tres Hombres album cover. Oh man, "honey? Can we got out for Mexican tonight?" Dang this is making me seriously hungry.

Tres Hombres was a killer record. Master of Sparks always reminded me of the kind of stupid stuff we were always doing....ZZ Top really knew how to evolve so they could sell right through the 80's even, but without selling out too much.
ZZ Top is a great band.
ZedZed Top's 2003 CD Mescalaro is one of the best discs of this decade.

But best trio? ZZ Top ain't even the best trio from Texas... that distinction certainly goes to King's X. I put ZZ Top in my top 5 rock trios though:

King's X
Rush
Triumph
Santers
ZZ Top
The Police

and if SRV and Double Trouble can be considered a trio (there were keys for some tours), then toss them in there too

ZZtop, never saw them in person, but love their music. I can't play any instruments, but for an old guy, I can sing pretty good. Up here in this area, My wife & I frequent the local karaole bars, and have been for years. So, I entertain whatever way I can. My Suzy is 5-10" and slim, with shapely 36" legs, so everyone who know's me, know's that "Legs" is my signature song to sing. This has been requested of me by the local KDJ's for yrs to get the party started, or finished. I have been the Man for rockin the house with this, over the years, I've added "Tush", "Call me the Breeze" (Lynrd Skynrd), "Boom, Boom" (a rockin version by the Animals), "House is Rockin" & "Pride & Joy" (by Stevie Ray Vaughn), but I also dance a little bit too, fairly good in the style I'm singing, they actually appreciate that also. I can sing ballads too, but why? everyone else does. I have more fun rockin the place, I also sing in the style of The Doors, Eric Clapton, INXS, CCR, or most of the classic rock stuff. My wife usually sings "Crazy" by Patsy Cline, and a lot of the latest country hits, and she can really belt them out, sometimes showing me up! So, actually we're like the senior version of Donnie, & Marie, "A little bit country", "A little bit rock, & roll",,, lol,,, and it's nice to be known for our songs, and good enough, to be requested back all the time.

Oh yeah, big ZZ Top fan. Way back in 1995 did the ZZ Top concert in the Cotten Bowl, so hot that day, was out on the field, they say the temp got to 112 deg. Had fun, wife got sick, had to leave early, beer and the 112 temp didnt agree with her. I guess one of my most fav tunes by them is Mexican Blackbird. I was in the service back in the 70's, stationed down in Del Rio Tex. which is about 8 miles from Acuna Mexico. Well lets just say this, young, single, party animal, rock-n-roll all the way type guy, spent alittle time in Acuna..........need i say more.

Here are the lyrics to the song:

"If you're down in Acuna and you ain't up to being alone
don't spend all your money on just any honey that's grown.
Go find the Mexican blackbird and send all your troubles back home.
They all call her her "puta" 'cause no one really knows her name.
She works the cantina, dancin' and a-lovin's her trade.
Her mama was Mez'can and her daddy was the ace of spades.
Oh, let's drive that old Chrysler down to Mexico, boy.
Said, keep your hands on the wheel there.
Oh, it sure is fine, ain't it?
Now, ya got it! Hand me another one of them brews from back there.
Oh, this is gonna be so good.
Mm, she's hot as a pepper but smooth as a Mexican brew.
So head for the border and put in an order or two.
The wings of the blackbird will spread like an eagle for you.
Oh, one more time,
can you roll me another Bull Durham, please?
Can't you do it with one hand, boy?"

Grand Funk, Yeah! How could I forget them, They were good! Had some heavy tunes, I prefer their haunting psychedelic version of "Feeling Alright" to Joe Cockers washed out version.
How about 3 Dog Nite, they had some good hits. Tho not in the class of ZZ top.
