I know this topic has been discussed here before, so forgive me for bringing it up again. I have a 1959, 5.5hp Evinrude and a 1974 9.5hp Johnson. I have read doing a decarb might help bring up the compression. What is the best treatment for these motors, where can I get it and what is the correct procedure to use it?

Thanks

Re: best decarb treatment

You can try this procedure:

web page

Or as I prefer. Get a can of "Seafoam Deep Creep" Spray Decarb. at your local NAPA auto parts store or wherever you can. Start the motor(With the lower unit in a tub of water, of course) and let it warm up to operating temp. Shoot the decarb. into the carb at fast idle until it starts to die and continue to do this until the can is about 3/4 used and then shoot enough in the carb to kill the motor. Take the spark plug(s) out and shoot some in the hole. Let it sit for the recommended time on the can and then fire it up again and blow some of the deposits out at fast idle or just above. Best thing is to head for the water and run it at full throttle to really blow it all out. Change the spark plug(s) after you have completed this..
