Hi- I'm pulling the heads on my 1973 Mercruiser 325 (it is a GM big block 427 engine). The engine is in a 1973 Cruise-a-Home houseboat, attached to a Mercruiser III I/O. The head gaskets are leaking (but not into the oil yet), and it will be an opportunity to clean things up. I will be doing the labor myself, which I'm capable of and comfortable doing.
I've heard that a huge difference in how marine engines hold up has to do with the gaskets that engine builders use. I'd like to put the best ones I can in this. Suggetions of type, and where to buy would be appreciated.
At a minimum, I'll replace head, intake, exhaust/riser, water pump, etc. gaskets.
Thanks all!
