I'll be reinstalling the lower unit on my 1980 Johnson 60 tonight. Original manual says to use OMC "Moly grease." I've seen both triple guard and white lithium grease recommended here. I also have a jar of high temp anti-sieze compound that I use for spark plugs, though it is probably not water resistant.

What do most people use?

Thanks,
Paul

I use axle grease on mine. It comes off yearly though.
Moly on any that I do for anyone else.

Something I learned on this forum not long ago is to watch out how much grease you goober on TOP of the shaft. Apparently it can fill the splined hole in the crank and, since grease doesn't compress, prevent the driveshaft from seating all the way. Maybe you knew this already but it was new to me.
I use that blue "Marine Wheel Bearing Grease" that comes in a can. But I wouldn't be surprised to find out there's something better. I'm still larnin'.

I use a product called Aqua-lube. Tennatious stuff, like bubble gum and axle grease combined.
Use an acid brush to put what ever grease you use on , this gives an even film and you can't over do it.
Pull your prop and re-grease that shaft while your at it

The factory water pump kits include a packet of MolyLube for the driveshaft spines. It is also available in tubes.
