Hi Folks, I currently have a 1971 Crestliner Sea Scout aluminum hulled runabout that I plan on repainting and eventually restoring. What is the best paint for me to use? Anything in a spray can? I may also have access to a home-made auto spray booth. What type of paint should I use? Enamel? Acrylic? The boat will be trailered and only be in the water when used. So I don't need to worry about anti-fouling paint. I would like to be able to use a spray can just for simplicity and ease. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Re: Best Paint

You can either strip the old paint or just sand it. Rattle can paint never works right and will look horrible. Do a search for paint in this section.

Rustoleum works. Auto paint works. Marine paint works. It is all in the prep.

You will be better using a roll and tip method as opposed to a spray can.

Ton's of info will be found in here.

First time I've seen someone with a 71 Crestliner. I have a 71 Dane model which is 16' and also considering giving it a paint job now that after 3 years I've finally got the 60HP Johnson running smooth. Send me your email address...mine is jksnyders@gmail.com so that we can share painting progress and experience. Jay

Re: Best Paint

Thanks for all the tips, I'll proba bly end up having a buddy that's into auto paint work, help me do some repairs on the hull(cosmetic) and then paint it while he still has a paint booth set up for his car. I'll probably get a couple cans of rustoleum, one mixed to the original bergundy and the other straight white. Gonna keep it factory looking, except I'll add a couple strips on the bow.

Jksnyder, lets keep in touch. I've got a couple areas on my hull thaat are scratched up that need some smoothing, I have yet to run across someone else that has the same boat as I. The Sea Scouts seem to be pretty rare. So I've decided to hang on to this one and put the labor into restoring it. Something to hand down to kids if I ever have any. My email, by the way, is SGPPhotography@gmail.com.

Happy planin'
