Hello gentlemen, I'm looking for a good over all performer with more speed. My factory prop ( 13x19 K ) aluminum prop is not too bad, but has 19% slip at wot.
Application; 2003 Crestliner Fishhawk 1750 SC (1100 lbs) Deep V
2003 Yamaha F75 TRLB (375 lbs) 13x19 K aluminum Prop
350lbs gear ( batteries, Bow trolling motor, Fishing Equipment)
1 - 2 fishermen 220 lbs each.
Current performance: 35mph alone @5500rpm , 2 men 34mph @5400 rpm
Motor spec; F75 4stroke, 5000 - 6000 rpm, 20" shaft, 2.31 gear.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, motor was originally located in the 3rd hole from bottom, top speed was 33mph @ 5300. Raised motor to bottom hole, top speed 35.5 mph @5600. I have cavitation burns on back side of blades now. Lowered motor 1 hole, 35mph @5500 (2 men = 34 mph@5450). I believe the burns are from running at speed in larger swells 2' - 3').

Sounds like it's underpowered. I believe that boat is rated for a 125hp(max). My brother has the same boat except a 2004. He runs a 125hp Merc 2 stroke and gets 50mph + .

Woa, that was a fast reply! You are correct, the boat is rated for 125. Circumstances required me to put a 75 on the boat when new ( if the economy was more forgiving I'd be in the market for a 115). So it's a matter of trying to get the most out of my 75, a few mph would help. I have a buddy with a yammie 115 who runs 52 - 54.

Looks like you're in the middle of the rated rpm range. If you drop to a 17p you'll be on the upper end of the range which is good. You'll get a better hole shot. With your 4 stroke I'm sure it's not great at the moment. I have a 4 too. But, I believe you may lose some on the top end. I'm running a 17p on my 60 4stroke. If you go to a 21p, your rpms will drop some, will hurt your hole shot, but you should gain some mph. I'm thinking the 19p that you have is probably the best all around pitch. Maybe just going to a 19p stainless would be the key. You'll gain more rpms and should gain a few mph.

The experts will weigh in. This is just info I've gathered from reading other prop threads. I'm learning too.......:)

I have the exact same setup on my 04 1750 fishhawk. I used to get 38mph out of my yammie 13/17p prop. I fish the great lakes and St. clair for musky so I actually run a 13 1/4x15p stainless rapture which only goes about 35mph @5600. fully loaded as you said with 2 people and alot of gear. the big thing is I get better steering and control in big waves, along with way better holeshot. I'd like to try a 13 1/4x 17p stainless for sure. the 15p prop trolls better for muskies too.

Wow. I'm surprised you're only getting 200 rpms more with a 15p stainless than his 19p aluminum, both being fully loaded...

Cool, that we're all Musky fisherman....:D

Re: Best Prop For Yamaha F75

Holeshot is pretty good actually, the boat jumps right up on plane. I am using a "whale tail" on the motor, I forget the brand, but it is a piece of 1/8" stainless plate that bolts on under the cavitation plate. I didn't think a stainless prop of the same pitch/design would give me more rpm, I was under the impression that it was the opposite (loose rpm's). So this is a simple question, Yamaha makes a 13x19K in stainless also, would this be a good choice or would it run like my aluminum prop?

Re: Best Prop For Yamaha F75

Here's a blurb from Evinrude. This applies to any make.......

Material: Aluminum or Stainless Steel ?

Aluminum is good for general all-purpose recreational use engines. It is cheaper and less durable than stainless steel. Most pleasure boats are factory equipped with aluminum propellers. A good quality aluminum propeller will provide satisfactory performance for most family and fishing boats.
For ultimate top speed or better acceleration, a stainless steel propeller will probably be required. Stainless steel is much stronger than aluminum, and can endure far more abuse. If you can afford the higher price of stainless steel with the desire for top speed and acceleration, I would recommend stainless steel as the best choice overall.

Short answer, you'll run better with a stainless......

I'm figuring that a stainless prop is probably the best choice, but with so many to choose from where do I start? And as far as being a Musky fisherman, I do fish occasionally fish for the bait fish (walleye, bass, etc.) but them toothy critters are a passion.

Can't answer your question. I'm going to be in the same situation. I want to switch to stainless too. Have decided to stick with OEM. Although, they give you multiple choices. Read up on the different syles and pick the one that best suits your needs. Or, find a few that you're interested in and ask the forum which choice would be the best for your application(eventually, that's what I'm going to do. Give the members my OEM choices and hopefully most agree on one prop).

The experts still need way in on your issue.......

Went out yesterday with my daughter, maybe the last trip for this year, and played around a little with the toothy critters. It's amazing how excited one gets just seeing one follow, let alone hook one.. Like you said, everything else is just bait!

Let us know which prop you end up with........

Contacted my dealer, he set me up with a Turning Point Express 13.25x17 Stainless, results: 35mph @5250 alone. Did not try 2 guy's, I'll be seeing him tomorrow and trying a 13.25x15 Express, I'm also going to check my carbs ( mixtures & balance) before making my tests.
