I would like to ask for opinions on the best way to clean boat deck after a day of fishing when you have dry blood, dirt and grime on your deck. One dealer in Florida on my last trip suggest a solution of half bleach and half water to clean the boat deck in order to keep it the deck white and stain-free. Is the bleach going to damage the fiberglass or its wax? At this time, I just use Simple Green to clean my deck. :)

Hoa
I do not know about the bleach, I guess it is in a plastic jug but then again do not want that jug to last 25 years. For me use plane cold water and only if needed then I use a auto soap and a brush or rag.

50/50 bleach and water is pretty strong. If I was to use bleach, I would mix it like TCW-3, 50:1, 3 ounces per gallon.

I use laundry detergent because it doesn't sudds up too much and rinses off easily. Park the boat in the shade, wet it down, pour a bucket of detergent and water onto boat surfaces and carpet, scrub a little if needed, then hose it all off.

i rather clean the deck while i'm still out. use simple green or another envirnomentally safe cleaner, and a hard bristle brush with long handle. scrub a dub dub, and rinse. if you have a raw water washdown system, makes it even easier.

Fish blood and slime is hard to get up after it dries, but easy while it is still wet. I keep a little short handled mop in a rod holder and just give it a quick swipe with a wet mop before putting the lines back in. Any mild detergent will work OK after this.

I do what the other guys have said. If it dries though, spray it down with water and let it sit for a while, then just use car wash and a medium scrub brush. If it doesn't come off easy, repeat. Be careful with the bleach. Laundry bleach such Clorox or Javex has about 5% chlorine so make sure you only do a capfull per bucket. I look after the local water system (75000 customers), chlorine is used for disinfection and we only dose at 1.5 parts per million. Granted, our source water is good but you don't need much more than that for disinfecting your decks. Chlorine is also a powerful oxidizer and very corrosive so if you use it make sure you give it a good rinse afterwards or all your hardware will take a beating. Glad to hear you have fish guts all over your decks.
I'm with Jack Shellac, I leave a mop in a rodholder... A raw water wash down Helps... The drawback to that is the water Dripping on you...... Damn, I Love that Feeling....

I'm also Very Glad to hear about your Fish Gut Covered Decks...!!

I agree with the others, I keep a brush right on deck and scrub immediately. When the deck gets gets crudy, ( a friend introducted me the product) I use Challenger PC-737. It is for industrial use but label says it is safe for boats, etc. It really works.

Good day mates!!!! :) We do alot of charters and we gut and fillet the fish on board. In a 5gal. bucket I use a solution of bleach," one cup " or so and water with Polmolive liquid soap and a stiff brush. The liquid soap is also good for in the bilge. It breaks down any oil,gas etc that may be in your bilge water. You can also use Ajax liquid. Don't use cheap stuff like Dawn. And i agree with a couple other post that it is alot harder to clean when it dries or is baked on by the sun.

:) Enjoy the boating season ;) :D

The Unorthodox Flyfisher
