bought the pontoon it's a 96 toon with a bf50hp honda on it wasn't watering too good then stopped completely so replaced water pump which was toast in pieces.

tested with muffs etc watered good took it to lake did fine but then nearly stopped watering..took it back out the next week to check everything saw nothing wrong no clog checked with compressed air..put it back together watered like it should with muffs.

put it back in water did as should squirting out pee hole like a champ after a couple hr ride looked and it had slowed down to nearly not watering again????????

no clue I know how to change water pumps changed many through the years on my boats I did this correct, even with the entire kit which wasn't needed.

I have no clue the tube was lined up good I checked and like I said it waters strong then for whatever reason I thought to look back and check and it barely was watering under full speed.

Re: bf50 not watering right..

I just bought a used BF50 50/35 jet, so my experience is just one day on the water. However it was quite the day!

The previous owner had pumped a lot of sand with the jet. I was wondering why there was so much fine sand inside the cowling down low around the block. I could see no way for the sand to enter under the cowling.

It ran fine and the tell tale started to slow down to a trickle, and then drips. Soon water was pouring out of every little hole, put the tell tale. I pulled the cowling and a flood of water spilled out. The hose had slipped off the hose barb on the block. Stuck it back on and dumped more water out then off to the races. Nope still no water stream.

It turned out that there was sand jammed in the little port piece which blocked the water flow. The port piece has a ID about 2mm wide handling water from a 1/4" tube. At full throttle there was enough pressure to force the tube off the hose barbs.

I would check the port piece for a blockage. This also happened to me a few years ago with my 25hp nissan. A bug had built an egg nest in the tube filling it and the port piece with gunk. Acetone was the only thing that would dissolve the bug gunk.
