hi again guys, sorry i have to start another thread, merc 5.7 alpha one drive , today i took the boat on a fishing trip, from i have the boat this is the best it has ever run. as i get back to the no wake zone going about 2 or 3 knots i herd a bang as if my prop hit something, it did not seems to matter i was still heading toward my slip, now here is the funny part, as i was easing in my slip, real slow try to use the reverse to stop the boat the boat has no reverse it goes into drive instead BANG I HIT THE DOCK REAL And MAKE A BIG DENT ON THE DOCK PLANK. after everyone shock as can be, jump of secure the dock line put the boat in forward gear the boat goes into reverse, put it in reverse it goes into drive. never seen anything like this before.

so what can be wrong here guys maybe i did not hit anything maybe the sound was something in the drive broken?

help me out here guys thanks.

Sounds like you need to remove the drive and do some more investigating.

i don't see how it can be in the drive.

think i'd disconnect the lower shift cable inside the engine compartment. see if it shifts there first. i'd think more to the remote than the drive...

achris has much more knowledge than me... but i don't see how it can be in the drive? the clutch dog only goes fwd or backward. engageing fwd or rev. gears in the lower. how could it possibly get reversed???

thanks don s i was hoping you jump on, yes always work great,
i jus came off the 20 miles round trip about a block from my marina is a no wake zone, i drop down to a crawl about 1 to 2 knots, after going about 60 foot at this same no wake speed i herd a the little rumble like when your prop hit something, the boat keep going fine, its when i got to my slip i notice i have no reverse, and the reverse turds into forward. i start her back up put it in drive it goes in ,i then put it in forward and it goes into reverse, i then back to reverse and the boat is going forward. i then close shop for the night, and went home sad lol.

Sounds like the shift spool or pin that holds the shift dog may have broke. As Chris said, time to pull the drive and check it out.
