Re: Big Queston

Have not been able to get to the motor to try and start or do a compression test. Yes I agree that the motor needs the attention but when I found the boat with the outdrive was just trying to think ahead. But after thinking I should really get to the motor to see if I really need to replace it or not. If so then try and find a whole boat with the stuff that I need. Thinking that I am getting ahead of myslef as usual.

Yup, that was precisely what I was athinkin. If your motor is no good you'll be way better off buying something with a whole driveline in it ready to go.

If it is good than you can make informed and intelligent decisions from there.

The other thing is that the OB on a bracket option becomes a little more appealing/reasonable if you have to replace the your whole entire power plant, ya know. Still just an option though ($$).

Re: Big Queston

I did a complete motor rebuild on my 66-67 110 hp. Glad I did it but was not cheap or easy. But, I now know what I got when i'm out in the lake. Found a shop (speed shop) that would do it. Not many do anymore. Looked a bit wimpie amongst the big blocks, hemi's. I think they took it on as a "pet project" just to see if it could be done. Shipped 2 blocks in before they found one that was good. Bored it out to the max, new pistons. The head was so bad it could not be ground.... so the hot shoot machinest cut out the seats to acept V8 302 valves!!! They said the cam needed adjustment!! They shipped one in from Alaska that could be cut to fit ..had a lift that would work. Rejetted the carb. It cost about $1600 when all was done. I asked them how much horse it had now.... He just smiled and said.."don't know for sure but it would just stand back a bit when I first stared it up"!!

Re: Big Queston

I forgot is your transmon assembly in good shape and all you need is a new outdrive?
If so try sei, I replace my old 140 with a complete sei 106 unit and so far have had no trouble.
Take a look at their web site.

I have checked them out and have been thinking about them. Just not sure what I am going to do at the moment. But they say that you need to have a working trim/tilt system and I dont at the moment. It is hard to find parts for it, NB said he had some rams he would sell me. Have to find out if my pump is any good as well, am thinking it is bad as well cause this system has bee not working for a long time accordin to the PO.

Sterndrive engineering also sells pumps and rams at a good price.
I have not purchased any rams or pumps from them so I do not know how good a quality they are. Their prices seem good on these products.
