Moderators? Any chance of making a sticky?

I'm trying to compile a list that can be accessed in one post, or one thread, of folks' favorite parts suppliers for the older big twins, which predate 1968, which is the earliest year that appears on the johnson/evinrude parts web site.

So far, I have:

http://www.laingsoutboards.com/

anyone please feel free to add to this

Most of what appears on the Laings rather short and mostly aftermarket (Sierra) new parts list, can be found here at iboats with a lot of other parts. You might want to add them to your list.

The best source for vintage OEM parts is probably still sea-way.com in Seattle, WA.

BRP/Evinrude has a list of vintage parts suppliers on their website; see question 5 here: http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/About.Us/FAQ/Older.Vintage.Products.htm

You could also add the salvage list for used parts:

sea-way.com

outboard-parts.com

laingsoutboards.com

tcoutboard.com

fairwindsmarina.com

salvagemarine.com

marinepartsoutlet.com

outboardexchange.com

Well, I can understand the reason behind supporting the "local" business. At least know that my very first search for "big twin" parts began right here at iboats marine store. And my much newer Evinrude 135 will probably have everything it needs right here, to boot. :)

You might also be surprised at how many of the parts you are seeking are available through your local OMC/BRP dealer. I'm all for supporting iboats, but think that the same loyalty towards the dealerships is appropriate. I don't buy everything from my local dealer, but try to support his business as best I can.

I live in a small town. according to the evinrude dealer locator, the nearest dealer to me is 45 minutes away. i might still call them to see if they have, or can get, some of the antique parts for my antique motor that i need.

I went for lower unit bearings today (1953 Johnson 25hp) and only the front was was still available. They even stocked it. The rear and upper, I'll have to try Seaway.

Best place this guy has everything I have needed.

http://www.maxrules.com/fixvintage.html

also does free tech support with installation. Try finding that anywhere. Very knowledgeable and boasts to be the first certified master technician!

I have talked to the man on the phone and he is a straight shooter all the way> If you can't find it he can .

Re: Big Twin parts sources, compilation?

from another thread, someone suggested a place to get the voltage regulator, if you have a big twin with the generator:

www.ishopmarine.com

and for my rds21b:
"The regulator is part number 377001, changed to 381538. List $95.00. $81.69"
thanks to tashasdaddy, reminding me that on these forums, iboats store is our "local" store, so i will check iboats first, and you should too.
