Re: Bigdaddyzeke
A while back I did a comparison of Ballistic to other stainless props on my Chrysler 90 (very similar to your Force 85) and posted it here. While the 21 Pitch Ballistic will be too much prop on your engine for any but the smallest boat, it will give acceptable speed. The problem is that your engine will probably be loaded down below the recommended operating rpm range of 4500-5500 at wide open throttle. The engine will "lug" and you may experierience carbon build-up.
As an example, on my 14 foot go-fast with a Force 125, the Chrysler racing cleaver prop turns 5900 rpm and 60 MPH. A 13 X 21 Ballistic stainless turns 4500 and still delivers 60 MPH.
So, while the Ballistic may work on your engine and hull combination, it may not be the best prop for it. Certainly, I would expect that it would not be correct if you wanted to water ski. It would be acceptable for tubing and probably wakeboading though.
Ballistic is a very well made and nice looking prop but in your case, I would most likely save it for a spare and pick up a 17-19 pitch prop
You really need a tachometer and need to determine what the wide open throttle rpm is. It should be between 4500-5500 rpm and preferably on the higher side --say 5000-5500.
Please post some photos of your prop off the engine and the prop shaft. Reason? I needed to modify my thrust washer to get enough room to fit the 21 pitch Ballistic. I would like to see if yours has been modified or if the previous owner notched out the exhaust snout for clearance. These photos show what I needed to do and the clearance from the blade to the snout. Note that the circular anode shown at the far left of the last photos is NOT used.
