Well, I took Amanda Ford out to New Jersey and did some time on Barnegat Bay. The Big Black Beauty performed flawlessly even after dragging her through the sand bar shown in the middle photo and wrapping a rope around her prop. Long story involving the tide dragging me when I went to release the anchor. I had to power out.

In fact, she even outran a similar sized cuddy with a 150 Evinrude. It was the white one, again, seen in the third photo.

Not too shabby for a 300 dollar engine! Remember: This was the engine that needed two pistons replaced. Gimme a Force any day!

Time for technical question and answer.
How'd it do on fuel?
Kind of speed with the 150?
I have twin 85's on a 21 center console and was thinking of changing to a 150.

Went out yesterday for the Red Snapper(only a 3 day season)
Went close to 45-50mi round trip and used 23-25gal.
I came back in with a following sea and maintained about 29-30mph.
Top speed is about 34
Going out was a bit rough and did about 20-22mph.
Caught NO Red Snapper but did catch a 6# Mangrove and an 8# Trigger Fish.
BIGGEST Trigger I've ever seen. Can't resize the pics and they won't load

The photos were at my brother-in law's house on a cul-de-sac in Waretown. There is no ramp there. However, I launched at the Barnegat ramp which is 5 minutes away. Everything except the ramp there is new because they were not really stronger than the storm LOL.

Jerry: I can't really tell about fuel usage yet because I had a wimp in the boat and only used full throttle for a very short period. I have not yet re-filled the tank. I expect that the Big Black Beauty will use about 15 gallons an hour Since last time I used her she burned through about 6 gallons in less than a half hour running.

However, with 4 people and some rain in the hull, she topped out at just less than 40 MPH. (it rained overnight before I used Amanda Ford and as you can see from the photos, she tows bow down.)
We were not expecting any rain for the few days there so Amanda was left uncovered. All the rain ran into the cuddy and probably the inner hull. I had no way to raise her bow high and even the ramp was flat. I needed to back the truck in almost to the cab in order to launch. So, I rode the bay with a good bit of weight in the boat. With two people and a dry hull she will do between 40 and 43.

Now hold on a minute! I thought we were in agreement that you were going to mount the black monster to the 14 foot blue and white hull, and put on the 2 blade racing prop? LOL! Seriously though, glad it all worked out, and it looks good on that hull too

Maybe we can convince you to try an 85 or 105hp on that little hull you have??? I am sure we would all pay to see that. If you do, I bet everyone here would donate a buck or two towards a good life insurance policy for you

I did mount the 140 mermaid engine on the 14 footer and promptly tore the gears out of the lower unit. I never even got more than 200 feet from the ramp. Unfortunately, the Force lower unit I now have on it simply does not let it reach its full potential. It is no faster than it was on the 21 foot cuddy.

I may try a dual exhaust unit and see what happens. However, the engine is now in repair mode: power trim has decided to start leaking down, among other problems, so at least for this season the 140 is retired.

I'm lucky as my T@T both will trim up and stay there,but leak down when tilted??
Guess I need to work on it in the winter(Oh no no winter here).
6gal in 1/2 hr? Right prop?

Isn't the rule of thumb, one gallon per hour per 10 hp? Pretty close to Franks numbers given his pension to hop things up.

Yeah! Elsewhere on the forum they use the generality of 10% of horsepower per hour. Thus a 150 would use approximately 15 gallons of fuel per hour AT FULL THROTTLE. I don't really have any hard numbers on this engine yet but it does appear to use a lot of fuel. BUT: If you need to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it LOL.

What I do know is that my 30 gallon tank is too small!

In fact, I was a bit leery of taking it out on the bay because I just don't have a lot of running time on it. Thus: I did NOT go out the Barnegat inlet and cruise a bit on the ocean this trip.

I use Sea Tow. $169 a year.
I thought why buy? With twin outboards why do I need insurance?
Well 3 weeks ago we went out and the motors never ran so good.
The hydrolic steering took a dump. A pin that connects the steering ram and arm wore out.
Turns out it was supposed to be stainless and it was soft aluminum.
The bill was $315. With towing ins. 0$$$
If anyone buys.Tell em Jerry sent you and I'll get a discount next year.

I agree 1000% on the insurance. As a new time boater (but long time jet-skier) with an older boat, it gives me piece of mind when I'm out with my wife or family. I however went with Boat US in lieu of Sea Tow. I called both local 'captains' in Highlands area and Sea Tow told me no way they would tow me back to New Brunswick. They made up excuses that the bridges are too low (Route 1, NJ Tpk) and when I said they are not, they said the water is too shallow (it's navigable to the RR bridge). The local captain for Boat US told me the exact opposite, he would have no problem doing this. An uninsured boater would pay over a $1000 for this tow but Boat US would cover this.

I hope I don't ever have to use this!

Thats a beautiful boat. You might want to put some helper springs on the back of your truck or get air shocks to get that rear end up a little.

Too much tongue weight will push it down like that.
It should have about 80-100# of weight.
Sometimes the boat can be moved back on the trailer and the winch stand moved back?
Or the axle moved forward.
Shouldn't need to modify the truck,just work on the trailer.
I'm sure Frank knows all that, he just wants to go boating on his NEW toy!!!
Me: that's the last thing I'd worry about.As long as it gets me to the ramp

As long as I'm not waiting in line.
Years ago(mid 80's) I was at a ramp, this guy pulls up with a 21-22 ft I/O with a cabin etc.
He gets the boat off and goes fishing and comes back and tries to pull the boat out.
No luck, the Vett he had wasn't gonna pull the boat out.All it did was spin the tires.
A month ago, I saw a newer Volkswagon Bug/ diesel pulling a 19ft center console.
He yanked it out like it was a 3/4 ton 4X4 not a whimper.
