I have a 1972 Evinrude 50 hp Model 50273C motor on my pontoon. The lower unit is cracked form the previous owner not winterizing this unit. Can this crack be brazed and if not, where can I acquire another housing to fit this motor?

Re: bikerdude

It helps if you address the problem in the title to your thread. "Bikerdude" dosent tell us anything and some of the members might overlook your thread entirely. If you can post pics of the lower unit showing the cracs it will help us help you:). Most times though, freeze-up cracking means a new lower housing is in order. I hope Im wrong......

I have welded lower units they are aluminum and you have to disassemble and screw in the outside holding plate then clean it real good and weld it with a heliarc w/hifreq.

Good Luck

Re: bikerdude

As stated, it all depends on the severity of the damage.

Some can be TIG welded with Argon.

Could you post pics??
