Hi guys, hoping you can help!

I have a Fletcher Arrowhawk 18 GTO, which I brought at the end of last year. I need to replace the bilge pump as it's not working.

I spoke to a mechanic at Fletcher the other day and he told me where to locate it, which I've done. It appears that the bilge pump is on some kind of raised fixture, and I was hoping that you can help me with a few questions I have!

Firstly, is the bilge pump screwed onto the raised fixture or attached in some other way, and therefore, how do I detach it?

Is it fairly simple to wire the new one in?

Is there any additional things I need to connect to the bilge pump, like hosing to the base of the hull, or is it just the unit itself that pumps the water out?

Hope you can help! I have little experience with these kind of things!

Many thanks. :D

Depending on the type of pump it is, it could be screwed to the raised plate from inside the pump. On some types of pumps the actual pump is a cartraige that disconnects from the base by depressing a tab and turning the pump a 1/4 turn then lifting it off. There will be a hose connection, with clamp and either two or three wires, depending on the type again. The wires you may have a plug in or you may have you cut them. If you have to cut them just use heat shrink butt connecters when you join the wires of the new pump.

It is probably a typical "cartridge" type pump whereas you squeeze a couple of tabs on the base and the pump itself lifts out. Then, of course, as dozer stated, you'll have to remove the hose and determine how to wire the new one in, whether via a plug or hardwiring. Here's a diagram of how a typical bilge pump/float switch is wired...

Now, if I'm not mistaken, Fletcher builds a lot of I/Os. If that's the case on your boat, and the pump/float are buried underneath the motor...have fun!

Thanks guys!

I'll go down to the boat over the next couple of days and take a look.

Fortunately it's an outboard motor!

Thanks again for your time. :D
