Bimini top support pole question

While I anxiously await the spring thaw and the first launch of my new-to-me boat, think of all the changes and additions I want to make to it.

One of the things I want to do is add a bimini top. There are several places to get biminis including here on iBoats. All the internet sites (including iBoats) seem to sell the same type of biminis; 3- or 4-bow tops with front and rear straps to hold it in place. Some sites also offer rear stanchions to support the top even when it's folded.

I've seen pictures of bimini tops on bowriders with rigid tubes separating the front and rear bows to keep the fabric taut. These tops have short stanchions between the front bow and the top of the windshield to keep the frame in position. The advantage of this design is the absence of rear stanchions or straps which permits freedom of movement at the rear of the cockpit; there isn't anything in your way when you board from the side of the boat. An example of this type of top on a Four Winns is included in the attached picture.

I can't find any online vendors of this almost freestanding design. Can anyone tell me who makes these tops?

Re: Bimini top support pole question

i just use some 1 inch aluminum tubing, and put the mount on the ends. i do use the straps on the front when it is deployed. just makes it easier to get up and down.

Taylor Made makes freestanding biminis, just have to call and tell them what you need.
