Hi folks,

I am thinking of a bimini for my fish & ski, any personal experience with adding an after market bimini?

I am not sure as to how to go about it.

All good advice appreciated.

Re: Bimini Top

you measure the beam (width) of your boat, and you measure how high you want the top, from the mounting position ( not the deck) then how long the want the top from bow to stern. i also highly recommend, getting the sliding mounts, allows you some adjustments with the top. support the company that provides this free forum.

Hey tashdaddy, do I measure the beam to the center of the hull side or to the outside of the hull side?

You measure to the point where you will mount the Bimini.

Re: Bimini Top

Just added one to my old tri hull this month. I got mine from Iboats store. Used their measureing chart and all went very good. The best 200.00 dollars I ever spent. Al

I have ordered many things from the iboats store and always found the pricing close or cheaper than other online or retail stores and the customer service excellent.

I second Iboats. When I called they had a teal top for 180.00 with free shipping. That was an unit that somehow the customers that ordered change his mind. It came with all the hardware. The tracks are a good idea. I used it on mine although I use them not exactly as intended. I didnot get mine from iboats as I got it used in trade for a radio install but if I were buying new Iboats would be the place not just because they are the board sponsors but because they have the lower price I could find.

get the aluminum prop poles ($35) to go with it so you don't have to take it down and stow it when you want sun. they hold it in an upright position looks like a roll bar but it doesn't get in the way. Mine is large enough it won't fit in ski locker , so I'd have to hold it up or leave it off and at dock when I don't want shade

That is a really good advice. Mine wont get in the way even if I lay it down but it save a bit of time and makes it look nice.

Yeah the struts that keep it up all the time are great! I can't wait till they get here. I just got my Sunbrella bimini from IBOATS and it is perfect! Material is awesome and it even looked better than the picture. Installation was easy. I just ordered the struts to keep it out of the way when I don't need it. My only concern is the difficulty of using the boat cover without taking the struts down too. I'll figure that out later. But definately orrder from here. Great products and often free or cheap shipping. Kinda wish I'd ordered the sliders too. GL

Re: Bimini Top

The poles are very easy to remove if you get the base with the pins instead of the one with the screws. Just take the pins from the back poles and that should be enough. Be careful as those poles could scratch the finish of your boat. If you have a generic cover it should work fine. If you have a custom made cover then you will probably have to remove the entire bimini or get another cover made.
Good luck...

I ordered mine through iboats - best pricing and a great product - received it in 7 days. I got the sunbrealla and wouldn;t give it up for anything.

Use the online tool and you will not go wrong. I am goign to get the support aith the pin - good suggestion
