I have a family of birds living in the swim ladder pocket. . . Looks like there are some new hatchings, based in the number of worms being delivered.

I've been working on the boat quite a bit over the past few days and the birds (mom & dad I suppose) have been quite cautious.

I plan on launching later next week, so I may have to move the nest to a safe place.

You may have to make up a surrogate for the ladder pocket when you move the nest. Then slowly move the surrogate away from the boat

Did that when robins made a nest in my extension ladder when I lived in Wisconsin, and again down here in Florida with a cardinal nest

You may want to take in consideration that small songbird hatchlings usually leave the nest anywhere between 10 days to 2 weeks before leaving the nest. They will not come back to the nest after leaving.

I had them attacking the side mirrors on my old 98 Jeep while I wasn’t driving it for a year or so. As soon as I started using it again they disappeared!

I had to resort to 3 Gullsweeps to keep birds off my boat during the season, and also keep the old nasty fake cats around just in case, lol. The gullsweeps really do work, I had nothing on my mooring covers as long as I've been using them.

There's a great place right beneath my cover on the platform that chickadees love to nest in. This is the first year in a while that they haven't been in there. Also, underneath my gunnels are such a great place for wasp nests that I keep a mirror and a can of spray on board at all times.

Looks like a Wren. I had one (apparently) that decided to make a seasonal home in my shop. Been about 5 years now. A very busy bird when she has babies in the nest. She has a beautiful voice. This years 3 hatchlings have just left the area on their own. Spiders have all but disappeared......yeahhhhhhhh!

I got some close-ups as I was changing the oil today. The bird does not seem to mind the engines running, but quickly vacates when I go up/down on the boat.

Let's play name that bird . . . :D

Someone mentioned wren. I was thinking finch.

Birds on the boat is way better than bats in your bellfry...

If they are feeding it will be less than two weeks before they are gone.

fake cats

That's a great idea, don't know why I didn't think of it. Lots of pigeons around here, I don't usually mind them but they keep fouling the boat in the yard, been thinking about shooting some of them.
