black cannon plug

Just picked up a 1976 25hp evinrude 25653E and didn't get the cannon plug that goes in the front of the engine. I was going to rig it up so I can use the electric start but I can't find any schematics on what wires would go where. I am supposed to have one on the way in the next week or so but was wanting to get it running today or tomorrow. Can anyone let me know which connector on the plug on the engine would go to what.

if you just want to use the engine with electric start. you just take a wire from incoming battery cable, at the solenoid, to a push button switch, and then one back the small post with the yellow/red wire. pushing the button will activate the starter. then choke it, or idle it all way down to kill it.

Thanks tdaddy. That will work but I would like to attach my battery cable to the correct plug terminal. this engine has the plug mounted on the front of the housing. There will not be room to run another cable to the solenoid without taking the internal wiring harness out of the holder. Would also like to rig up a deadman switch on it too as we now have the jumping asian carp down here. They get to 15 and 20 pounds and jump at the sound of an engine. These things can jump 10 ft out of the water and we have already had some guys literally knocked out of their boat. Would like it to shut off if I'm hit. Any suggestions? It does not have a kill switch on it now without the ignition being hooked up and that still would not solve my problem.

I think if you get a factory manual for your engine and look at the electrical system you can figure out how to install a dead man switch. It would have to be installed in the circut to ground the points. Maybe you could replace the shorting switch with a kill switch that uses a lanyard.

you can take a standard deadman switch, and use the exiting wires to the kill switch. you are suppose to have the correct harness on the way. my thought was for temporary switch. you should be able to use the existing battery cables, they just run along side the harness.

Thanks for the replies. First, I am supposed to be getting one but she is not sure she can find one. She is in Detroit with a bunch of dealers that she knows. I bought the engine from her. Might not find one. Secondly, It would be easy to use the kill switch for a deadman switch but this engine does not have one on it. I would need to use the right pin in the internal wiring harness. Like I said it is physically mounted on the front of the housing next to the low idle adjustment. There are two large pins which I suspect are my battery cables but then four smaller pins. One has to be a grounding wire for the ignition shutoff. Evidently this setup is almost year specific as I have never seen a setup like this. If anyone has a factory manual and it shows which pin goes to what I would be forever in their debt. Again, thanks for the advice.
