Ahhh, good idea. Shooting raw gas all over a motor that's running. I guess if there was spark arcing somewhere that would certainly pin point the place.

that's a pretty standard trick in the auto industry. Thanks for your help

Just be careful with that around an outboard that isn't running right. Everytime an outboard "sneezes" fire comes back up into the carb throat. Also it may be running bad because of spark jumping somewhere. We'd hate to see you get hurt.......

if its running that rich I asume it doesnt idle quite right, with the outboard running and trimmed all the way down, start trimming up, if the motors starts running better the higher its trimmed check the fuel bowls for warpage, was a notorious problem with them, as they "bow" the gasket that seals the fuel input to bowl passage cant seal and fuel bypasses the needle seat and creates a very rich running condition most notable at low speeds.

and forget all about car technology, you will only shoot yourself in the foot with a 2 stroke outboard.

Re: Black oily Plugs. VRO problem?

update: i took yesterday off to work on this thing without any interruptions. took the carbs apart and extra thoroughly cleaned them and put them back together with the right rebuild kit (the dealer gave me the wrong one s the first time and i had to put them together with the old gaskets which were pretty recent) put in QL77JC4s per the manual and got rid of the 82's performed a link n sync and tried it.

Results: runs way better, plugs looked good but still a little cold blooded and the pee hole water was always cold as were the heads and plugs so i am pretty sure it needs new thermostats. thanks for the help!
